Motorcyclist reports that if you have a bunch of extra cash, you can now try and snag one of 100 exclusive tickets to Riders for Health Day. The event takes place Thursday, July 19, the day before the Laguna Seca MotoGP action kicks off.

For $500, ticket holders get some nice VIP treatment — a motorcycle tour, access to the MotoGP paddock, three parade laps around the track, an auction of racing memoribilia and the opportunity to meet some current and former racing legends.

I think this is a really fantastic event and I’m a big fan of Riders for Health. Riders provides healthcare workers in Africa with motorcycles and other vehicles and helps create the infrastructure needed to properly maintain them, allowing medical care to be delivered to remoted villages. That’s pretty cool.

The state of Washington has rolled out a campaign to increase the number of properly licensed motorcyclists. Unendorsed motorcyclists are overrepresented in motorcycle fatalities so I think it’s great whenever a state spends money to encourage training and licensing.

I’m more excited about their public service announcement that will begin airing soon.

While it’s focused on convincing riders to get trained, I’m hoping its depiction of a near miss with a cell phone idiot will also remind car drivers to look out for us.

I came across some posts I’d been saving from the Northwest GS Riders mailing list. Mike Paull of GlobeRiders had sent a list of freight companies that had been used by their clients.

Motorcycle Federal Transport
Daily Direct Motorcycle Transportation
Forward Air, Inc.
Eagle One Express

Another list member replied that Alaska Marine Lines’ Seattle location is great for people located in the area looking for a way to get their bikes to Alaska.

Finally, a member who had used several different services pointed to JC Motors as his favorite.
